Angelina Jolie's & Brad Pitt's Oldest Biological Daughter
There may not be an actress more internationally famous than Angelina Jolie, or an actor more famous than Brad Pitt. That’s why it became big news when the two started a relationship that made them the biggest power couple in acting, and it resulted in countless headlines over the years.
Before getting into a relationship with each other, Jolie had been married to to actors Jonny Lee Miller (1996 to 2000) and then Billy Bob Thornton (2000 to 2003). During her marriage to Thornton, Pitt had already been in a very public relationship with actress Jennifer Aniston. Pitt and Aniston would head for divorce proceedings in early 2005, and while the divorce was pending, Jolie and Pitt started working together as the stars of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith”.
The two started their famous relationship while on set, and Pitt became the father figure for Jolie’s first adopted child, Maddox. In 2005 and 2007, Jolie would adopt two more children (Pax and Zahara) that would also be adopted by Pitt during their relationship. Then, Jolie and Pitt decided to have their own biological children starting in 2006. On May 27, 2006, they would welcome their first daughter Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt.
The pregnancy was highly publicized by the media as it was the first time that Jolie had become pregnant, so she knew there would be a media circus surrounding the birth. Because of that, Jolie and Pitt decided to get away from the United States, heading to Swakopmund, Namibia to get away from it all.
It wasn’t a simple birth for Jolie, though, who said that “I was in breech,” when having her daughter. “I needed a C-section, and I knew I was in breach because I had had the money to have an ultrasound. But I found even the local hospital with many, many women – and this was a good hospital – did not have an ultrasound machine…So the amount of women that didn’t know they were in breach, the amount of babies and complications when they got into labor, with one simple machine.”
It also became a financial success for the two as they sold the first photos of their daughter to Getty Images to give the money to charity, that way the paparazzi wouldn’t be making millions.
The images sold for millions of dollars to benefit charity in what was the ultimate wise decision. Not only did they keep their new child away from the paparazzi, but got the money out of it to give to a good cause. UNICEF was the benefactor for this move, the charity that provides assistance to children and mothers in developing countries.
It seemed that things were going great for the family, especially as they welcomed twin brother and sister Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt on July 12, 2008. The couple would also finally get married after nearly a decade together, tying the knot on August 23, 2014 in France. However, things took a turn in 2016 as the couple announced that they were separating, and the divorce has been ongoing for nearly two years.
Still, that hasn’t drawn any interest away from Shiloh, who still gets plenty of attention from the press whenever she’s out with either of her parents. Since birth, Shiloh has been the center of media attention, and seems to be handling it quite well. With parents like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, though, it kind of just comes with the territory.
When talking about her children, Jolie said that “Shiloh’s hysterically funny, one of the goofiest, most playful people you’ll ever meet.” One thing that people talked about extensively while Shiloh has been growing up is her style. Many in the media said that Shiloh dresses “like a boy,” and Jolie even addressed this.
“Shiloh, we feel has Montenegro style. It’s how people dress there,” Jolie said. “She likes tracksuits, she likes suits. So it’s a suit with a tie and a jacket and slacks, or a tracksuit. She likes to dress like a boy. She wants to be a boy, so we had to cut her hair. She likes to wear boys’ everything. She thinks she’s one of the brothers.”
Both Jolie and Pitt are very keen on allowing their daughter to act just the way she wants. “I think she is fascinating, the choices she is making,” Jolie said. “And I would never be the kind of parent to force somebody to be something they are not. I think that is just bad parenting.”
Shiloh would be back in the headlines following her parents’ split in 2018 after she had a snowboarding accident that left her with a broken collarbone. Thankfully, it wasn’t a serious injury, as Shiloh was back out in public with her mother just a day after the incident. There were also tabloid headlines that Shiloh had shut out Brad Pitt from her life in 2018, but those were debunked by sources close to the family. They all seem to be getting along despite an expensive divorce that’s yet to be finalized, and it’s certainly not the last time that you’ll hear about Shiloh Jolie-Pitt as one of the biggest names in entertainment at just 12 years old.
