Famous For Faith Hill & Tim McGraw's Daughter
Few names are more synonymous with country music than those of Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. McGraw has released more than a dozen albums throughout his long career and has released hits such as “Live Like You Were Dying”, “I Like It, I Love It” and “I Need You”. As for Hill, she would also become one of the biggest stars in music during the 1990s, highlighted by her songs “This Kiss”, “Breathe” and “The Way You Love Me”.
Hill had been married when she was just 21 years old back in 1988 to Daniel Hill, though the two had divorced in 1994 after the success of her first album. In 1996, McGraw had already become an established name as the top country star, and Hill was selected as the opening act on his Spontaneous Combustion Tour. At the time, Hill had become engaged again, this time to producer Scott Hendricks.
Hill and Hendricks broke off their engagement, and she started dating McGraw. While they were on tour together, and quickly got married, tying the knot on October 6, 1996. Seven months later, they would have their first child, a daughter named Gracie Katherine. In August 1998, they welcomed their second child, Maggie McGraw. During this time, Hill would take a break from music to focus on her family before releasing some of her biggest hits.
Not many people saw the oldest two children when they were growing up, and that was on purpose according to McGraw and Hill. They made sure to keep them out of the spotlight, staying away from paparazzi and the public eye so that they could grow up with normal childhoods. Thankfully, it seems like it’s worked out for the family.
After growing up and graduating from high school, Maggie decided to attend Stanford University, and is currently a student at the prestigious school. She’s also taken a keen interest in the music business just like her parents, forming an all-female group with fellow students named Sister Supply. The group performed at the May 2018 Frost Music & Arts Festival at the college’s football stadium that was headlined by Glass Animals.
Despite having a lot of potential and certainly some connections into the business, Faith Hill has told her daughters to be cautiously optimistic when pursuing a music career. “Tim and I know what it takes to really do this for a living, but, as a parent, you don’t want to stand in the way of their dreams,” she said. “It’s been one of the most difficult things for me as a mom – especially as a mom of all girls. You want to protect them; you want to make sure they aren’t disappointed.”
She added that “The one thing we stress is that you don’t get things handed to you on a silver platter – you have to work for the things you want. (The girls) know it takes hard work. You don’t just arrive.”
Even if a career in music doesn’t pan out for Maggie, having a Stanford education is certainly nothing to scoff at in terms of a backup plan. According to her father, Maggie has shown an interest in possibly becoming a marine biologist. “Maggie is a free diver,” he said. “She’s always been interested in the ocean…and we’ll see where it takes her, but that’s always been her biggest interest.”
For the family that’s had a normal life despite being super famous, it made it difficult to drop off Maggie at Stanford when it was time to go to college, especially since it was so far from their home. Faith Hill and Maggie went on a road trip across the country to drop Maggie off at college, and that it was hard to say goodbye. “It was painful,” Tim McGraw said. “But, in a way it made us sad, but made us happy as well.”
“When we were moving Maggie into her dorm – and the same thing happened with Gracie when we moved her into her dorm when she went to school – I mean, 30 minutes after being in there and moving things in they were trying to kick us out,” he joked.
Maggie still gets to spend time with her famous parents whenever there’s a break in the school year and her folks aren’t on tour, getting to go on vacations over the holidays that include spring break paragliding. Both McGraw and Hill share photos of their daughter on social media whenever they get the chance, boasting about how proud they are (as well as their other two daughters) of her and her accomplishments to this point in life.
Now entering her 20s in 2018, there’s a lot of potential for Maggie McGraw to follow in her parents’ footsteps as a famous singer. Already getting a head start in music, Maggie has plans to hit it big on the country charts, but also has solid alternatives in place. It seems that the McGraw-Hill duo has raised their daughters well, and should have plenty of success with or without music.
