Well after Christopher Reeve’s “Superman” films and before the big budget blockbusters that have starred Brandon Routh and Henry Cavill, fans of the superhero got their fix thanks to the CW series “Smallville”. One of the stars of the show was Allison Mack, who played Chloe Sullivan throughout the entire series, and she would also star in shows such as “Wilfred” and films such as “Marilyn”.
The German-born actress (with American parents) isn’t one of the people you’d expect to fall into the trap of a cult, but reports are saying that it might be the case. The 35-year-old is believed to be part of the NXIVM DOS, which was founded by Keith Raniere in 1998 and supposedly has more than 10,000 followers. The New York Times reported in 2017 that members of the group refer to female members as “slaves,” and blackmail women into not leaving. It’s said that the DOS part of the group stands for ‘dominus obsequious sororium,’ which is Latin for ‘master over the slave women.”
Emails that were leaked within the group are said that these women are told to fast for 12 hours on a daily basis, and must take freezing cold showers and perform “a daily act of honor” for their “master.” The group responded to these allegations by saying that they “are built upon sources, some of which are under criminal investigation or already indicted, who act as a coordinated group…We will explore any and all legal remedies to correct these lies.”
So what is Mack’s role in this group? It turns out that she’s one of the “masters,” and answers directly to Raniere. Reports say that to do this, she must find him partners to sleep with, stick to a very low-calorie diet and run 40 miles per week to stay extremely thin. Former NXIVM publicist Frank Parlato left the group and said “Allison is both a victim and a perpetrator. She is a victim because she has been brainwashed by Raniere and she is his ‘slave.’”
Mack is one of the many women that allegedly can only drink water or black tea for 12 hours per day in the time where she’s fasting, which the group says builds a “capacity for love through the tolerance of pain.” A Dropbox leak revealed a folder labelled as “Collateral,” which is said to have an incriminating photo or document that would be leaked if the members weren’t meeting satisfactory performance. Many of the members are also said to have a certain brand on their skin with the group’s logo.
Allegations say Mack is constantly recruiting members to join NXIVM, according to Parlato. “She has also recruited many women to this cult. Before, (Raniere) had good looking women surrounding him somewhat but what she did is use her glamour and celebrity to take it up a notch,” he said.
He added that “She attracted a younger breed of women to the cult. At first I thought she was second in command of DOS, but now I think she may be third in command. But ultimately it all boils down to Raniere – his is the master of all the women. One of the things that is a terrible concept to Allison is that she is ordered to find Raniere bed partners and she is conflicted because she really wants to be with him.”
“I’ve had women who have escaped the cult tell me that they are told to sleep with Raniere and Allison gets really jealous about it – and they tell her ‘Look I’m doing what I’m told – I don’t even want to have sex with him, I’m force to,’”he continued.
Parlato also noted that NXIVM is being funded through millionaires such as Clare and Sara Bronfman, both of which are heiresses that have given Raniere more than $150 million. “Without the Bronfman’s money, there would be no slaves, no branding, no blackmail. Bronfman money funds the whole horrifying cult.”
Some of the claims that Parlato has made about Mack appear to have some credence behind them, as paparazzi photos that were seemingly harmless start to make more sense. She’s been shown eating very light meals while in public, and has been spotted running outdoors in Albany, New York where the NXIVM headquarters are located.
Mack has chosen not to speak about any of the allegations, as her publicist said that “Allison is passing on all press inquiries at this time.” A video surfaced of Mack having a one-on-one conversation with Raniere himself talking about “authenticity,” in what appears to be a recruiting video, and that’s another thing she doesn’t want to discuss at this time.
